In preparation for my graphic novel, I study photos and drawings from the war. Sketching the poses, clothing, and supplies allows me to not only see what people wore and lived with but actually study it and enter it into my visual vocabulary.

    I love all the different emotions in the bottom sketch — each character seems to have a personality based on their facial expression and body language.
